Giant S-X2 Disc Wheelset

Reviews and good numbers are hard to find on many stock wheels, with good reason. This is an attempt to fix that with respect to the Giant S-X2 disc wheelset that comes with many Giant Revolt bicycles.

Thanks. I was hoping to get info on weight. I’m planning to upgrade to DT Swiss GR1600. I agree they roll well and I plan to keep them. I’ll probably keep slicks on these wheels (commuting and training rides) and knobbier tires on the new set for gravel Fondo events. Another thing I noticed right away is that I don’t think Giant’s wheel building is great with respect to the spoke tensioning. My wheels were slightly out of true before I even rode the bike.

I currently have a giant toughroad 2020 TOUGHROAD SLR GX 1 and it has the s-x2 wheel set. Do you know if it’s possible to upgrade the casette on the wheel set to an 11 speed cassette? i been looking everywhere and can’t find the answer.

Could you clarify this a bit more. There are HG-L and HG-M freehubs. The HG-M take up to 11 speed MTB cassette but only up to 10-speed road cassetes (with the exception of two specific 11-speed cassettes CS-HG800 and CS-HG700). Only the HG-L can go up 12 speed road cassettes. So are these hubs HG-L (outer length 36.75) or HG-M (outer length 34.9)? If your 11 speed is not one of the 2 exceptions above then, it should be HG-L. I would to know how much trouble it would be to upgrade the Revolt 2 to GRX 2×12 down the line.… Read more »

Super, thanks. The brands mostly don’t specify which hub their lower end 9 or 10 speed offerings use and both types of hubs are certainly available.

Thanks again

Since you seem to know something about bikes, I was wondering what you think of the Cube Nuroad. The Pro (2×10) also uses the same frame and wheels as the higher models but is cheaper than the revolt 2 (€1200 vs €1400). I don’t know if it has a road hub though. There is also the even cheaper 8 speed basic model (€950) but for this one, the hubs are listed (Tourney level MTB type) and do not support road 12x and would have to be changed if I were to upgrade. With a full 2×12 GRX groupset incl brake… Read more »

Hi. I’m thinking of buying a secondhand Giant SX2 Wheelset for my GT Hybrid. Can you use a 9 speed cassette with it? Thanks.

any idea what the max weight limit is for these ? Could I bikepack on them for instance ?

Just note that the Giant SX2 wheels are upgraded in 2021. I just bought Giant (Liv) Devote 2 and alhough the wheels are labeled SX2, they are different to the model reviewed here. They seem to be much wider rims 622x25mm and I do not notice any wobble in the freehub….

I was just learning about tubeless and my bike came with these wheels. I was hoping this would tell me if they were with or without hooks so I’d know how to buy tires in the future.

Hi,

I just bought a second hand cross bike for my son with this wheel set. Could you tell me what type of freehub this wheel has? (It needs to be replaced). Thanks!

Hi!

I bought a second-hand Giant bike with this wheelset and I’m wondering what tires would be suitable as replacements. The reason I ask is that the rims themselves are described as tubeless by Giant, so I’m wondering if both regular and tubeless tires would work. My tires are oozing out sealant throughout, I think from having been driven with low pressure…
What would you recommend?

Thanks

I currently have a Grant FastRoad AR Advanced 2. The tires I currently install are Giant Gavia Fondo AR, tubeless, 700x40c. My wheelset is Giant S-X2 Disc wheelset, which can be installed on CONTINENTAL GP5000 AS TR 30C, 32C, 35C tubeless tires. tires?
